2015/16 Civil Engineering Shutdown

The Bargaining Council for the Civil Engineering Industry propose that that the shutdown period to be from 11 December 2015 (last working day) to 04 January 2016 (first working day). Please note that this is merely a guide and the operational requirements of the client will prevail.

It must also be noted that employees with 5 years or less service shall qualify for 15 days paid leave plus the number of public holidays that fall within the their leave period and employees with more than 5 years continuous employment qualify for 18 days paid leave plus the number of public holidays which fall within the their leave period.

The current proposed closure is for 12 working days, employees with 5 years or less will have 3 days to take during the year whilst employees that qualify for 18 days leave will have 6 days to take during the year.

BCCEI RELEASES UPDATE ON NATIONAL WAGE NEGOTIATIONS

The Bargaining Council for the Civil Engineering Industry (BCCEI) reports that, following intensive national wage negotiations, an agreement was reached on July 27, 2015 between BCAWU (Building, Construction and Allied Workers Union), NUM (National Union of Mineworkers) and SAFCEC (South African Forum of Civil Engineering Contractors). According to facilitators, Advocate Afzal Mosam and Ebrahim Patelia, the three year agreement will now be submitted to the Minister of Labour for promulgation.

The Bargaining Council for the Civil Engineering Industry (BCCEI) has announced that all parties, being BCAWU (Building, Construction and Allied Workers Union), NUM (National Union of Mineworkers) and SAFCEC (South African Forum of Civil Engineering Contractors), have agreed to continue discussions on Monday July 27, 2015. These discussions follow the deadlock reached during ongoing national wage negotiations in June 2015.

The Bargaining Council for the Civil Engineering Industry (BCCEI) has confirmed that following the final round of the national wage negotiations for the civil engineering industry a deadlock was reached. The matter has been referred to the BCCEI and despite the impasse the parties, BCAWU (Building, Construction and Allied Workers Union), NUM (National Union of Mineworkers) and SAFCEC (South African Forum of Civil Engineering Contractors) have indicated their willingness for further discussions.

BCCEI RELEASES UPDATE ON NATIONAL WAGE NEGOTIATIONS

The third round of the national wage negotiations for the civil engineering industry was held between the parties being BCAWU (Building, Construction and Allied Workers Union), NUM (National Union of Mineworkers) and SAFCEC (South African Forum of Civil Engineering Contractors) over the past two days. The Bargaining Council for the Civil Engineering Industry (BCCEI) has confirmed that progress was made and the parties will reconvene on June 08, 2015

The Bargaining Council for the Civil Engineering Industry (BCCEI) has announced that after Round Two of national wage negotiations, which took place over two days, a deadlock was reached. BCAWU (Building, Construction and Allied Workers Union) and NUM (National Union of Mineworkers) have declared a dispute which the unions will register with BCCEI.

The BCCEI MANCO was held on 21 August 2014, where the addition of allowances as stated within the signed substantive agreement was passed for promulgation in the BCCEI Basic Conditions of Employment Collective Agreement by the Honourable Minister of Labour Nelisiwe Mildred Oliphant.

Minister Nelisiwe Mildred Oliphant

The Honourable Minister of Labour Nelisiwe Mildred Oliphant has increased the earnings threshold under the Basic Conditions of the Employment Act. With effect from 1 July 2014, the threshold increased to R205,433.30 per annum.

Collective Agreements

It is with great excitement that we announce the promulgation of our industry’s collective agreements by the Honourable Minister of Labour Nelisiwe Mildred Oliphant, which has also been extended to non-participating. This means that all companies with a CIDB rating of 4 to 9 within the scope of the civil engineering industry will have to register with the BCCEI.
